If you have decided to travel with your pet, be sure to let us know when booking or purchasing your ticket or by calling our Contact Center no later than 36 hours before the scheduled time of departure, as pets are carried only subject to the airline’s consent, and there are limitations on what animals you can carry, and how many.

PJSC "Aeroflot" accepts domestic and tamed pets such as cats, dogs and birds for carriage, as well as service dogs of the Federal Executive Authority Canine Service as a special type of non-standard baggage. Such transportation is charged at a special baggage rate. Other animals such as polecats, ferrets, meerkats, fennec foxes, lorises, pygmy hedgehogs, mini-lop rabbits, marmosets etc. will only be accepted for carriage if they are tamed.

The following animals will not be accepted for carriage as a non-standard baggage:

  • brachycephalic dog breeds: Bulldog (English, French, American), Pug, Pekingese, Shih Tzu, Boxer, Griffon (Belgian, Brussels), Boston Terrier, Bordeaux Mastiff, Japanese Chin;
  • rodents (guinea pigs, rats, chinchillas, chipmunks, squirrels, gerbils, dormice, marmots, ground squirrels, jerboas, etc.);
  • reptiles (tortoises/turtles, iguanas, geckos, chameleons, snakes, lizards, frogs, etc.);
  • arthropods (insects, arachnids, crustaceans etc.);
  • fish and fish seed, marine and river animals that must be transported in water;
  • animals and birds that are not tamed (taken from wild nature), large predators that are representatives of wild fauna in their natural habitat, such as bears, large primates (gibbons, orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, etc.), wild cats such as caracal, serval cat, ocelot, jungle cat, fishing cat, Amur leopard cat, manul, Andean cat, kodkod, etc., large predators of the cat family: ounce, jaguar, lion, tiger, panther, lynx, puma;
  • sick or experimental animals/birds;
  • animals whose weight together with the skipper exceeds 50 kg.

Only adult and legally capable passengers are allowed to transport domestic animals or birds.

Domestic and tamed pets/ birds as a special type of non-standard baggage shall be transported in a skipper (cage) either in the cabin or in the baggage hold. Soft pet carriers of the closed type can be used as a skipper for transportation in the aircraft cabin.

Potentially dangerous dog breeds (guard dogs, fighting dogs) must always be carried in the baggage hold in reinforced cages.

Service dogs of the Federal Executive Authority Canine Service can be transported in the aircraft cabin without a skipper provided they have a collar, a muzzle and a leash. Limitations concerning the weight and breed of a dog of canine services of the federal executive authorities are not applied.

Guide-dogs accompanying visually disabled passengers (visually impaired) are carried in the aircraft cabin free of charge in excess free hand baggage allowance, provided they have a collar, a muzzle and a leash and upon provision at check-in of a document confirming disability of such passenger and special qualification of the guide-dog. A passenger’s request for carriage of an animal as special non-standard baggage may be refused for the following reasons:

  • there is no quota for carriage of animals on this flight;
  • it is impossible to ensure proper air temperature in the baggage compartment due to the design features of the aircraft (unheated baggage compartment);
  • an animal cannot be accepted for carriage both in the baggage hold and in the aircraft cabin;
  • there is a ban or restriction on the import/export of animals/birds as baggage (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (London), Ireland (Dublin), United Arab Emirates (Dubai), China (Hong Kong), Iran (Tehran), etc.) in accordance with the legislation of the country of origin, destination or transit.
 

Legal requirements for animals transportation

The owner of an animal/bird shall be fully responsible for compliance with the legislation of the country of origin, destination or transit.

To specify the legislation requirements (including the list of required documents), we recommend contacting the competent authority of the country of origin, destination or transit. Please consult your embassy or consulate, if needed.

Requirements concerning the carriage of tamed animals, such as: dogs, cats, ferrets and rabbits within the territory of the Russian Federation, the import and export of exotic ornamental domestic animals and birds and their transit within the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as information for owners of companion animal, zoo and circus animals (Veterinary Certificate Form 41), are available at the website of Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision of the Russian Federation.

Requirements relating to the import of animals to the territory of the Russian Federation are available on the website of the Customs Union.

 

For flights to/from the USA

Due to the notification received from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) we would like to note that before planning to transport your pet to the USA you should familiarize yourself with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirements (https://www.cbp.gov/) as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) requirements (https://www.usda.gov/) related to pets’ transportation from/to the USA.

In case of non-compliance with the imposed requirements the passengers are subject to liabilities stipulated by the USA legislation.

 
 

Before flight

1. Prepare all documents required for transportation:

  • learn the legal requirements of the country of origin, destination or transit.
  • make sure your animal took all required vaccinations, and the isolation period has ended before the date of the flight.
  • before the flight (but not earlier than 5 days before the flight), consult a veterinarian or a vet control specialist and get a note in the pet passport that the animal is healthy and can be transported (the required vaccinations are made and isolation period is over).

2. Please consult a veterinarian on safety measures during your flight.

3. Familiarize yourself with the airline's requirements for the skipper (cage, per carrier).

4. Make sure you have a veterinary first aid kit with you.

The pet should be clean, without any unpleasant odors, and sufficiently adapted to transportation in a skipper, a pet carrier or a cage.

 
 

Passenger check-in

Passengers traveling with animals/birds can only check-in at the airport.

We recommend that you arrive at the airport in advance to have your pet checked-in for the flight.

In accordance with the Federal Aviation Regulations* “items that may cause damage to the aircraft or persons or property onboard, …sick animals… will not be accepted for air carriage as baggage”.

* “General Regulations for Air Carriage of Passengers, Baggage and Cargo and Requirements for Passenger, Consignor and Consignee Services” approved by order of the Ministry of Transport of Russia No. 82 dated June 28, 2007.

When checking-in, the passenger must present:

  • a pet passport to confirm that the animal is healthy, has been vaccinated, and may be transported freely. An examination by the veterinarian or by a vet control specialist (if needed) must be performed no earlier than 5 days before the scheduled departure date;
  • documents for animal carriage required by the legislation of the country of origin, destination or transit (if necessary);
  • for free-of-charge carriage of a guide dog, the passenger must present a proof of disability and a document certifying the dog’s qualification.
  • for carriage of a service dog of the Federal Executive Authority Canine Service, the passenger must present a document confirming the special qualification of the service dog, as well as a document confirming that the passenger transporting the service dog is an employee of the Federal Executive Authority Canine Service.

Carriage of an animal may be refused at check-in in the following cases:

1. Carriage of the animal has not been confirmed or agreed on in advance.

2. The dog’s breed is not the one specified by the passenger when carriage was requested.

3. The passenger missing the veterinary supporting documents or at the moment of flight there is a ban or restriction on the import/export of animals/birds by the passenger as baggage by the legislation of the country of origin, destination or transit.

4. Carriage of the animal has not been paid in accordance with the approved tariff.

5. It is impossible to ensure proper air temperature in the baggage compartment of the aircraft.

6. There is a threat to the health and safety of other passengers:

  • the passenger does not have the required veterinary supporting documents, confirming that an animal is healthy and may be freely transported;
  • the skipper (cage, soft transportation bag) does not meet the requirements of the airline.
  • the animal transported in the aircraft cabin missing a collar, a muzzle and a leash or the passenger cannot control its behavior: the dog does not react to the owner's commands, shows unmotivated aggression towards others.
 

Additional information

Passengers shall be fully responsible for their animals/birds and for availability of the required permits and certificates.

The airline shall not be liable for any bodily injury, loss, delay, disease or death of animals/birds if they are refused from entry into or transit through any country, state or territory, unless it was caused by willful misconduct or gross negligence by the airline.

The duties of the airline staff do not include taking care of animals/birds.
